Webnodes CMS is a fully featured enterprise quality web content management system with many innovative features. You can even rebrand the interface and sell the system to your clients as your own system.
Advanced image editing
The image handling in Webnodes CMS is one of the major strengths. For developers, it's very easy to work with images. They just ask for the image in question in the required size. The system then returns the image in the correct size. When a scaled version has been created it is stored for later requests. If the same image is required in another size in another template or even on the same page, another cached version of the image in that size is automatically created.
Image handling for content editors is equally powerful. For image fields that are part of the template they can just upload the image, and the template will handle the rest. They only need to something if they want to crop the image. The image can be cropped using the image editor.
Using images in an html field is also very easy. Images can be inserted into the html field by just dragging the image thumbnail into the editor, or using the insert image dialog in the editor. Then they can drag and alter the image to a size and shape that suits their need. If they need more advanced editing tools, they can use the context menu on the image and edit it in the image editor.
Complete separation between content and presentation
In Webnodes CMS the content is separated from the presentation. The main benefit from this is the ability to present the same content in several media by just changing the way the content is displayed. A common scenario is that a company wants to use the same content in the website, a mobile version of the website and in a newsletter. In Webnodes CMS you just associate a content page with a template, and you get the finished webpage returned using the template in question. The separation also enables the usage of the CMS data in other delivery platforms. For example, the content can be edited in a desktop application, communicating with the CMS using web services. Or the content can be used for informational display systems in shops/airports/train stations etc.
Another benefit is that the design of a website isn't limited in any way by the CMS.
Below is a list of some of the features in Webnodes CMS. It's far from a complete list, but it contains some of the main advantages of using our CMS. If you're not sure if we support a particular feature, feel free to contact us. We also encourage you to take a look at the demo videos and the demo site. A personal demo can also be arranged.
Easy-to-use WYSIWYG text editor
The CMS has a powerful WYSIWYG editor for editing textual content. The editor makes it easy for non-technical users to add and edit content in a manner similar to Word. Some of the functions available:
insert images, insert video, insert YouTube and similar content, translation, table handling, html cleaning, undo/redo, custom CSS classes, paste from word, linking and many other functions.
One of the benefits of using our solution is that it's possible to rebrand. There are several benefits by rebranding the CMS. It could be that the solution needs to appear as it was developed by you. Or it could be that the CMS needs to be rebranded to match the brand of other integrated software, in order to provide the customer with a complete web system under one brand. No matter for what reason, rebranding gives you several options and more flexibility when pitching for new projects.
Compact and easy to learn API
The API in Webnodes is compact and easy to learn. The major benefit of a compact and easy to use API is that it is easy to get new developers up and running on the system. In our experience it's only hours before a developer with .Net experience can develop simple templates. There is also comprehensive documentation of the exposed API.
Webnodes CMS is scalable in many ways. We consider it's scalability with regards to project sizes to be the one of the major selling points. Our solution is suitable for projects ranging from small campaign sites to large and complex projects with many integrations, large amounts of content and many editors. This is a huge benefit, as a company can use our solution for all their projects, and don't have to spend money on learning several systems.
Our solution is also scalable in the sense that it can handle a lot of traffic. Our advanced caching technology is so effective that most page request doesn't even need to access the database, the number one performance bottleneck in most sites. A normal webpage using our solution will be delivered in 2-30ms, depending on the complexity of the code in the template. If you need even better performance, you can use ASP.NET output caching.
Webnodes has a custom object relational mapper built-in. This means that developers never have to write a line of SQL code to work with our CMS, and that all data access is done writing C# code.
Since our ORM is built specially for the data model in our application, it has been possible to optimize much more than a generic ORM, and it is tightly integrated with the caching mechanism in Webnodes CMS.
Based on Microsoft.Net
The first version of Microsoft.Net was launched in 2002, and has been continuously improved since then. We decided to build our solution upon .Net mainly because of three factors:
- It's a very well designed software framework
- It's backed by Microsoft, ensuring that it will be well supported for many years, and enable easy integration with other software solutions.
- Our target market has traditionally been small and medium sized businesses, and Microsoft is very dominant in that sector.
Since our CMS based on .Net, developers can reuse all their existing .Net knowledge. Templates for example can be built by using only built-in functionality and controls. The only CMS specific code is the data access code that fetches the data you display in the template.
Many .Net CMS systems require you to use XSLT for many things in addition to the .Net code. In Webnodes CMS, XSLT isn't used at all.
The interface in the Webnodes CMS edit and administration section is very easy to use, in a modern and streamline interface. All the interface components in the CMS are reused in all the modules, so if you learn how to use one module, the extra training required to learn how to use other modules is very small.
A feature that many customers like is the ability to strip the interface to suit the tasks the different users do in the application. For example, a news contributor can be limited to just see the news items in the site, and only be allowed to create and edit news items. Another example can be an external partner. They can be given a login that enables them to view and edit one specific document. You can even limit it more than that. You can limit the access to that a user can edit one specific field on one specific document.
Lucene based search engine
The search engine in Webnodes CMS is based on the open source Lucene search engine library. The Lucene search engine library is widely used, and it has a wide range of features that enable our CMS to satisfy all of your search needs.
Lucene is tightly integrated with our solution, making it even more powerful than a standard Lucene search. For example you can filter searches in Lucene on the results of a query in the CMS. Contact us if you want to know more.
